Red Currants
Description:
A member of the gooseberry family. The berries are bright red in colour. Red currants are small, round fruits that bear a resemblance to grapes.
Peak Season:
End of June - July
How to Pick:
Berries should be firm and bright in colour.
Storage:
They can be refrigerated for a few days after picking (red currants usually last longer than the black currants).
Usage:
Fresh eating, freezing, pies, pastries, cakes, jams, syrups, etc.
Nutrition:
Rich in Vitamin C and K, Iron and Manganese. High in fiber content and antioxidants.

Our Black Currant plants started to bloom in May. Since the flower formation, it takes about a month for them to grow and become a beautiful and delicious fruit. We expect to start picking in mid July.

Nutrition:
Rich in Vitamin C and B-Vitamins as well as Iron. High in antioxidants. As far as ORAC value (oxygen radical absorbance capacity), black currants offer one of the highest values among every other fruit but a few: chokeberries, elderberries, and cranberries.
